How it works
Instant negative vs. confirmed result — what to expect
A point-of-care urine screen reads the sample at our Ashburn lab and returns a same-visit negative for the vast majority of tests. Any non-negative result is sealed, shipped under chain-of-custody to a certified reference lab, and confirmed with GC/MS or LC/MS technology. Confirmed results return in 24 to 72 hours.
For court, DOT, and most employer scenarios, the confirmed result is the one that matters — so even an instant negative is followed by a confirmed report when chain of custody is required. Bring any paperwork the requesting party issued and we will complete it at check-in.
Hair-follicle results are not available same-day. They take 3 to 5 business days after collection but cover a 90-day detection window — preferred for child-custody, probation, and pre-employment scenarios where a longer look-back matters.
FAQ
Same-day drug testing questions, answered
Common questions about walking in for drug testing today. Don’t see yours? Call us at 571-500-7030.
Can I get a drug test today?
Yes. Walk in during open hours and we collect your urine sample the same visit. Most 5- and 10-panel urine screens produce a same-visit negative result. Non-negative samples are sent for confirmation testing and post-confirmation results take 24 to 72 hours.
What is the difference between an instant result and a confirmed result?
An instant (point-of-care) screen reads the urine sample at the clinic and can return a negative the same visit. Any non-negative is sent to a certified reference lab for GC/MS or LC/MS confirmation. We report negatives the same day and report confirmed results in 24 to 72 hours.
Are walk-in drug tests legally defensible for court or my employer?
Yes — when collected with chain-of-custody. We follow strict chain-of-custody for court-ordered, DOT-regulated, and employer-mandated tests, with each sample sealed in front of you and tracked from collection through reporting. Bring any paperwork the requesting party issued.
How far back does a same-day urine drug test detect?
Detection windows vary by substance. Most water-soluble drugs (amphetamines, opiates, cocaine) appear in urine for 2 to 4 days after use. THC can be detectable for up to 30 days in chronic users. Hair-follicle testing extends the window to roughly 90 days but is a separate sample type.
Do I need to fast or stop medications before a same-day drug test?
No fasting and no medication changes. Bring a list of any prescription medications you are taking — the medical review officer needs to know in case a positive needs to be reconciled against a prescription on file.
