Who needs a TB test
Ashburn programs and employers that commonly require TB screening
If your school, employer, or program asks for documented TB screening, we can complete it during a single walk-in visit and provide a signed, stamped lab report you can submit.
Nursing & healthcare students
Marymount, NOVA, GMU, and Shenandoah programs almost always require an annual TB screen before clinical rotations begin.
Healthcare employees
Hospitals, urgent-care groups, home-health agencies, and dental practices typically require TB clearance at hire and annually thereafter.
Childcare, schools & shelters
Loudoun County childcare staff, teachers, school volunteers, and shelter workers commonly need documented TB screening.
Immigration & travel
Required for many immigration applications and pre-travel clearances. We provide a signed, stamped report accepted by most reviewing authorities.
How it works
Same-visit TB collection — single visit for QuantiFERON, two visits for PPD
Walk in any day during open hours. Tell our staff which test your program requires (or ask us to recommend one based on your situation), pay the flat $89 price, and we collect right away. Most school and employer forms are completed at check-in.
For the PPD skin test, we book your 48-to-72-hour reading appointment before you leave. The read takes 5 minutes — the trained reader measures the induration (not the redness) and documents the result on your form. Miss the window and the test must be restarted, so the single-visit QuantiFERON blood test is the safer choice when your return is hard to schedule.
For the QuantiFERON blood test, results post to your secure online portal within 24 to 72 hours. We can also fax a signed report directly to your school or employer at no additional charge — just provide the fax number at check-in.
Often added to a TB visit
Blood work nursing and healthcare students commonly need
If your program also asks for a CBC, CMP, or full wellness panel, we can run them in the same blood draw — saving you a second needle stick.
Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP)
14 markers covering kidney function, liver enzymes, glucose, electrolytes and protein levels.
Complete Blood Count (CBC)
Measures red and white blood cells, hemoglobin, hematocrit and platelets — a baseline blood-health screen.
FAQ
TB testing questions, answered
Common questions about TB testing at our Ashburn lab. Don’t see yours? Call us at 571-500-7030.
What is the difference between a PPD skin test and a QuantiFERON blood test?
A PPD (also called TST or Mantoux) is a two-visit skin test — we inject a small amount of purified protein in your forearm and read the result 48 to 72 hours later. QuantiFERON-TB Gold is a single-visit blood test with no return reading required. Both meet most school and employer requirements.
Which TB test should I get if I was vaccinated with BCG?
QuantiFERON-TB Gold is generally preferred for BCG-vaccinated individuals because BCG vaccination can cause false-positive PPD skin reactions. The QuantiFERON blood test is not affected by BCG.
How much does TB testing cost in Ashburn?
Our TB test is $89, payable at the visit by cash, credit, debit, or HSA/FSA card. The price is the same whether you choose the PPD skin test or the QuantiFERON-TB Gold blood test.
Will my school or nursing program accept your TB results?
Yes. We provide a signed and stamped lab report with your name, date of test, type of test, and result. Most schools, nursing programs, healthcare employers, and immigration officials accept the report as-is. Bring any specific form your program has issued and we will complete it.
When do I need to come back for the PPD skin test reading?
Exactly 48 to 72 hours after the injection. We will book the reading appointment when you come in for the initial injection. Miss the window and the test must be repeated. If the timing is hard to schedule, choose the single-visit QuantiFERON blood test instead.
Can I get TB testing without insurance or a doctor referral?
Yes. No insurance, no doctor’s order, and no prior physician visit required. Walk in during open hours, pay the flat $89 price, and have your test the same day.
