When people order hormone testing
The three most common reasons Ashburn adults book a hormone panel
A hormone panel is not a diagnostic on its own — it gives a clinician numbers to work with. We collect the blood; you discuss the result with a primary-care, endocrinology, or functional-medicine provider.
Low energy or fatigue
Persistent low energy can reflect thyroid, cortisol, testosterone, or iron imbalances. A comprehensive hormone panel screens the most common drivers at once.
Libido or mood changes
Testosterone, estradiol, and DHEA shifts can affect mood, libido, and motivation in both men and women. Useful to baseline before starting any treatment.
Sleep or stress disruption
Cortisol and thyroid markers respond to chronic stress and poor sleep. Worth baselining if you’ve had a stressful season and aren’t bouncing back.

How to prepare
Get the cleanest hormone result on the first draw
Most hormones peak in the morning. Schedule your draw between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. when possible — especially for testosterone, cortisol, and DHEA. For women tracking menstrual-cycle hormones (estradiol, progesterone, LH, FSH), the day of the cycle matters more than the time of day. Call ahead and we’ll help you pick the right day.
Fasting is not required for most hormone panels. If your draw is paired with a metabolic panel (glucose, insulin, lipid), an 8-to-12-hour fast is recommended. Take your normal medications unless your prescriber has instructed otherwise.
Hormone results post to your secure online portal within 24 to 72 hours. The comprehensive panel takes 3 to 5 business days because it includes specialty markers. You can share or print results directly from the portal and bring them to any provider you choose.
FAQ
Hormone testing questions, answered
Common questions about hormone panels and timing. Don’t see yours? Call us at 571-500-7030.
When during the day should I get my hormone test?
For most hormones — testosterone, cortisol, DHEA — morning collection between 7 and 10 a.m. is preferred because hormone levels peak then. For women tracking menstrual-cycle hormones (estradiol, progesterone, LH, FSH), the day of the cycle matters more than the time of day.
Do hormone blood tests require fasting?
Most do not require fasting. Insulin and glucose draws (sometimes paired with hormone panels for metabolic context) are best done fasting. If you are unsure, call ahead and we will confirm the prep for your specific panel.
Which panel should I order for low energy or libido?
A comprehensive hormone panel that covers total and free testosterone, estradiol, DHEA-S, cortisol, and thyroid (TSH, Free T3, Free T4) is the most common starting point for adults investigating fatigue, mood, or libido changes. A clinician can help interpret the result and recommend next steps.
Can men get an estrogen test? Can women get a testosterone test?
Yes. Both sexes produce both hormones. Estradiol is commonly tested in men investigating gynecomastia or low-T treatment side effects. Testosterone is commonly tested in women investigating PCOS, irregular cycles, or low libido.
Do you offer at-home hormone testing or kits?
No. We are a walk-in lab — all our hormone testing uses serum (blood) collected at our Ashburn location, which is more accurate than the saliva or finger-prick kits sold direct-to-consumer.
